Monitor is welcoming submissions throughout February 2026. We are looking to read pamphlets or short-form works, and in this window we are particularly interested in poetry, creative-critical prose, and works for performance.
To submit, please follow the link below and upload a manuscript and a short cover letter introducing yourself and your work. There is a nominal fee of £5 to contribute to the labour involved in reading submissions. If you are on a low income or unwaged, you are welcome to submit using the promotional GRATIS on the next page.
The submissions will be read by the editors of the press (Rory Cook, Rachael Allen). You can find more information in the F.A.Q.s below, and please contact submissions@monitorbooks.co.uk if you have any further queries.
Thanks for your interest and we are looking forward to reading your work!

What is Monitor?
Monitor is a small press based in London. We publish short-form work by writers and artists to produce unique publications with attention to design and print. From 2026, Monitor will publish full-length books.
What are you looking for in this submission window?
We are looking to read short-form works to join our existing pamphlet series. This could be a self-contained or thematically linked sequence of poems, creative-critical writing in prose, or writing around performance, such as scripts or scores. We are primarily interested in writing projects, although we’re open to work that includes visual material. While Monitor publishes writing in English, we are also keen to consider translated projects.
Having a look at Monitor’s existing titles will give a sense of the kind of work we publish.
How long should my submission be?
The terms ‘pamphlet’ and ‘short-form’ can be tricky. As a guide, works will likely be 24–44 pages as a finished publication.
Should the work be completed before it is submitted?
We like to develop projects with authors and expect an involved editorial process. We also enjoy developing the publications in conversation with our designers and exploring new possibilities for print and formats. With this in mind, works-in-progress are encouraged, but we will need a clear sense of the overall project, which can be included in the cover letter.
Will I be paid if my work is selected?
There will be a nominal fee for selected authors, plus 10 copies of the publication (and generous discounts on further copies and our other publications).
I’m not based in the UK. Can I still submit?
Submissions are open to writers based anywhere. We are based in the UK and expect to organise readings or launch events here. It’s unlikely we have the budget to cover significant travel expenses, so it’s worth bearing this in mind if you are thinking of submitting.
When will you publish this work?
We expect to publish works selected during this call from autumn 2026.
Why is there a submission fee?
Monitor is a part-time project that does not receive funding. Any money we make through sales of our publications goes back into developing, designing, and printing future work. It is a privilege to read new work from writers but it does take a long time, and so charging a modest submission fee will allow us to give the submissions the attention they deserve.
If you are on a low income or unwaged, you can find details above on how to submit for free. Doing so will not impact how we read your work.
